Look back at the first edition of L'Étape Poland

In the Heart of the Tatras moutains

Last week-end, the first-ever edition of L’Étape Poland by Tour de France transformed the mountain town of Zakopane into a vibrant hub of cycling culture. From May 9th to 11th, cycling enthusiasts gathered to experience the thrill of the Tour de France in the picturesque setting of the Tatra Mountains.

Cycling festivities for everyone

The event started on Friday with the opening of the Race Village in the city center of Zakopane. All the visitors had the opportunity to visit the expo, engage with interactive exhibits and immersed themselves in the history of the Tour de France through a dedicated museum.

Saturday hosted the Family Ride and the Kids Race. The first one was organized on a 2km loop and offered the opportunity to every cyclist, beginners like confirmed ones, to enjoy a first leisurely tour. In the afternoon, the youngest cyclists had the chance to experience their first racing feelings.

The main event: challenging the Tatras mountains!

On Sunday morning, hundreds of cyclists took the start of one of the two race formats: The Race (75km, +1,000m) or The Ride (45km, +700m). From the top of the mountain, all of them tackle these races in the morning mist, before enjoying a sunny day on the bike when reaching the valley. The riders navigated through iconic regional villages and stunning landscapes, before facing a challenging last climb to the finish at the top of Gubałówka peak.

Our goal was to design a route that combines sport, culture, and community. We believe this first edition will be an unforgettable experience for everyone involved.

Jozef Pukalovic, Event Director.

The event concluded with an awards ceremony at L’Étape Village, where top performers were honored with the iconic Tour de France jerseys (the Yellow Jersey for overall winners, the Polka Dot jersey for the best climbers, the Green Jersey for sprint specialists, and the White jersey for the best young).

A promising first edition

L’Étape Poland has successfully brought the spirit of the Tour de France in Poland, offering amateur cyclists a professional racing experience in the middle of the breathtaking beauty of the Tatra Mountains. With its blend of challenging courses and cultural immersion, the event has set a high standard for future editions, promising to become a date to save in the polish cycling calendar.
